Skillscaper: disruptive tools for a new creative learning culture

 

Skillscaper Inc. brings together  the products, technology, content and methodology created over the last four years by two innovative companies: Urban Brain Studios (Los Angeles) and Learnscaper (Paris, France), who have merged their technology by creating Skillscaper.

 

This has enabled the development and deployment of our flagship products: Gamescaper and Chatscaper. 

 

The core team of Skillscaper is based in Los Angeles, London and Paris. Our products and accompanying transformative services were designed to respond to the rapidly evolving training and education marketplace. The paradigm shift began more than twenty years ago but has recently begun its transformation from a pioneering niche movement to the prime mover of universally adopted strategies.

 

Skillscaper combines decades of pioneering experience (Peter Isackson, Jay Cross) with proven leaders in technical innovation and performance (Ben McIntosh, Imrul Chowdhury) and a thorough culture of games-based

as well as social learning. 

 

 

The guiding concepts

 

Agile, adaptive, social and collaborative are the key adjectives that give us an idea of where we are going and why we are leaving behind the hyperstructured notions of traditional education and learning that actually limit our horizons, constrain our creativity and impede our productivity. Buildings, classrooms and lecturers are not the required conditions for learning. And all our libraries are now online.

 

The crisis of education is linked to our recognition that effective learning correlates with authentic motivation. The tenors of gamification have started applying that truth, but the psychology of motivation goes well beyond the quest for points and badges. Learning is social, i.e. cultural. We are interested in what others are interested in. Quality can be contagious.

 

 

 

We released GamescaperHTML5 in early 2013 and Chatscaper HTML5 in August 2013. They make non-linear creation not only possible for authors and producers of serious games, but more siginficantly they enhance the act of developing learners' skills for trainers, coaches and learners themselves thanks to their hyper user-friendly character.

 

From fun to thinking; from thinking to creating; from creating to playing

 

Chatscaper is everyone's way into the world of non-linear logic. It is first of all fun, but it also requires thinking and social decision-making. It is a catalyst for culture, a stimulant for communities. 

 

From playing to producing; from producing to sharing; from sharing to selling

 

Chatscaper enables anyone to produce instantaneously a sophisticated game built of strategic choices. It enables groups to work together on the logic of complex situations and relationships. It allows for the detailed examination of behavior, its causes and effects.

 

As a Chatscaper project matures, it can be finalized and published through the Gamescaper engine, used, shared or sold as a finished product. Our Worldscaper platform provides the setting for creative and eventually commercial exchanges between users, constantly sollicited to work together in teams or communities.
